Designed for cold climates, the Cold Climate Damper (available with Centric Air 2.7, 3.4, & 4.0 and QA Deluxe 5500 and 6500 models only) is powered by a heavy-duty actuator that is tested to 60,000 cycles. The door on this damper duct is insulated to R-10, (upgradable to R-50), to help ensure an air tight seal whenever your whole house fan is not in use. The insulated damper can be installed vertically or horizontally.
For regions of the country where it gets extremely cold, the damper door of the R-50 version is insulated with a combination of standard fibreglass insulation and VIP panel (vacuum insulation panel) to achieve its R-50 insulation rating.

Pull out my old Quiet Cool | Added new Centric Air 3.4 with R-50 Damper
I live in Colorado and had an old Quiet Cool which I had to cover with plastic for the winter. What a hassle. I replaced that old dinosaur with a new Centric Air 3.4 with a R-50 power damper. Love it.. works perfect and no more plastic.

Best Fan and R 50 for Cold Weather

The R-50 Power Damper is Cool
I have vertical wall and could not not find a whole house fan that would work. Quiet Cool offered a vertical adapter that I returned. Centric Air's R-50 damper worked perfectly. Easy mount and no back draft. Highly recommend.
